Blog 3: HuMaN JuStIfIcAtIoN: ReLiGiOn ExPoSeD

In Class we talked about religion and what religiosity is.  Religion, according to the dictionary is a set of beliefs concerning a cause, nature, purpose of the universe, explanations for the supernatural, creation of superhuman agents or agencies and is usually involving rituals, devotions, and often contains a moral code governing the conduct of humans.
With that being said, on our world we have many religions; Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Scientology, Hinduism, Confucianism, etc.  Each with their own set of beliefs, deities, and followers.  Religion has and will always be the start of conflict, oppression, and depression.  A quick example the Jew’s in Germany during World War II were hated, gassed, exterminated, and even experimented on all because of what the Jew’s believed and what they stood for and how they looked as people.  Religion has always been man’s idea of what a god or deity has in mind for people to believe and follow.  As the United States, we have “In God We Trust”, “God Bless America”, and the word “God” in the pledge of allegiance because our Founding Fathers believed in something more than any human can or could comprehend.
Now I am not going to say that any of the Founding Fathers were religious or not because I wasn’t there to witness their opinions or their ideas, but I will say that Thomas Jefferson, had African American servants, but they were not slaves and he treated them with the respect and the dignity that they deserved.  Besides the point, whether you believe in a religion or not that’s completely up to you, but I will say that our Country has fallen back on God for help in times of need or great sadness and so far I haven’t seen anything bad come out of trusting in him or seeing God as the center point of our lives.

I know this blog was a little confusing, but my goal was not to upset anyone or judge someone for what they believe and I believe that Religion is the cause of most of the hate and suffering that goes on in this world.  We use religion for our own ends and purposes and maybe if we all weren’t so busy trying to fit into one religion or another we would be able to find out what we truly should believe in.

Blog 2 - Disability, A Probable blessing?

There are Probable blessings within disability, but the pain with that experience of having a disability is what ultimately cause’s the victim to feel disabled and outcast from society.  What if that disability could be a blessing in disguise?  Now I am not saying that a disabled person would think like this or that I think that it is great that certain people are disabled and I am not, but what I am saying is that some aspects or outcomes of being disabled may be a blessing.  For example, people with the disability of being blind tend to have better hearing due to the increased use of their ears instead of eye site.  Now I am not saying that all people who are blind have this increase in hearing, but some do.
In the supplementary reading the quote, “if men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences.” Somewhat holds true, we all have consequences for the choices we make.  Not all the consequences will be bad because some of them will be good.  Their will always be inequalities with people who have disabilities and those without them.  The whole point is not to reflect on it.  Now I know that not all people see the blessings in the consequences or the actions taken that result in disability or even born with it, but everyone has some sort of purpose and the best thing anyone can do is to encourage and accept those who are different or those who look slightly weird or have trouble doing certain tasks and help them overcome their pain.  It has taken me years to see that or even see people for their hearts versus their disability, but some of them never asked for the life they were given or the things that were taken from them.  Inequality is perpetuated by the thought of someone having something that another person has, in other words, jealousy, envy, lack of self-control.  Overall, Equality will always be harder to achieve than inequality because peoples’ lives will always change for better or for worse and there is nothing you can do to reverse time and change the events that have happened.

Sometimes I wish that was the answer, I think we all do.
