Blog 3: HuMaN JuStIfIcAtIoN: ReLiGiOn ExPoSeD

In Class we talked about religion and what religiosity is.  Religion, according to the dictionary is a set of beliefs concerning a cause, nature, purpose of the universe, explanations for the supernatural, creation of superhuman agents or agencies and is usually involving rituals, devotions, and often contains a moral code governing the conduct of humans.
With that being said, on our world we have many religions; Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Scientology, Hinduism, Confucianism, etc.  Each with their own set of beliefs, deities, and followers.  Religion has and will always be the start of conflict, oppression, and depression.  A quick example the Jew’s in Germany during World War II were hated, gassed, exterminated, and even experimented on all because of what the Jew’s believed and what they stood for and how they looked as people.  Religion has always been man’s idea of what a god or deity has in mind for people to believe and follow.  As the United States, we have “In God We Trust”, “God Bless America”, and the word “God” in the pledge of allegiance because our Founding Fathers believed in something more than any human can or could comprehend.
Now I am not going to say that any of the Founding Fathers were religious or not because I wasn’t there to witness their opinions or their ideas, but I will say that Thomas Jefferson, had African American servants, but they were not slaves and he treated them with the respect and the dignity that they deserved.  Besides the point, whether you believe in a religion or not that’s completely up to you, but I will say that our Country has fallen back on God for help in times of need or great sadness and so far I haven’t seen anything bad come out of trusting in him or seeing God as the center point of our lives.

I know this blog was a little confusing, but my goal was not to upset anyone or judge someone for what they believe and I believe that Religion is the cause of most of the hate and suffering that goes on in this world.  We use religion for our own ends and purposes and maybe if we all weren’t so busy trying to fit into one religion or another we would be able to find out what we truly should believe in.
